Event Widget Now Supports Multiple Events

Today, we’re announcing the second release of our event widget that now supports multiple events. As before, the widget can easily be published on web sites and blogs to show events you’re interested in, or upcoming tours for your favorite artists. In a couple of weeks, we’ll be extending our events widget to support more social-networks through the Open Social initiative led by Google and its partners (the widget is already being used on Ning). Here’s an example of the updated widget running the new “dark” theme:

RSS Feeds on IPartee

If you look around IPartee, you may notice some RSS icons on various pages. We’ve just made RSS feeds available on several different pages through these links. These feeds are designed to help you keep track of events and venues in your area. We are currently serving feeds for:

  1. Event Activity (by event)
  2. Event Reviews (by city)
  3. Upcoming Events (by city)
  4. Upcoming Events (by venue)
  5. Venue Activity (by venue)
  6. Venue Reviews (by city)
  7. New Venues (by city)

As always, we welcome any feedback or suggestions for feeds you’d like to see on IPartee. If you don’t actively subscribe to RSS feeds, you can still use them through widgets on services like Facebook, MySpace, Wordpress and Blogger. Here are a couple of example widgets that are using our RSS feeds:

To use these widgets, simply click the “widget” link next to the RSS icons throughout the site depending on which feed you want. These links will direct you to a SpringWidgets page where you can customize the widget (size, color, etc) for your site and get the HTML to paste.

What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, blogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.

Why RSS? Benefits and Reason for using RSS

RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. You ensure your privacy, by not needing to join each site’s email newsletter. The number of sites offering RSS feeds is growing rapidly and includes big names like Yahoo News.

Events that allow the use of the widget include a “Share this event” link that leads to a page with instructions for webmasters and bloggers. The Share page also outlines other ways in which the event can be shared.

Other Updates

The announcement of our widget is accompanied by several changes to our own social-network, IPartee. They can be summarized as follows:

  • Anyone can create public and private events to share with friends through invites or widgets
  • Anyone can comment and review on event and venue profiles
  • Anyone can create public and private polls to share with friends through invites or a hyperlink
  • Anyone can comment, vote and submit answers on poll profiles
  • Contacts can be imported from GMail, Hotmail, and Facebook and they can all be invited to events and polls
  • Facebook users receive invitations to events and polls through “Notifications” on their Facebook home page
  • Several small bug fixes and other improvements

These updates support our initiative for open events on the Internet and they aim to open our social-network to as many people as possible. Stay tuned for future announcements relating to Open Social and the platform efforts of popular social-networks.

Tips: Promoting Events

There are three main ways you can promote your event beyond our standard event listings and search:

  1. Comment and Poll Inserts
  2. Inviting Friends Without Accounts
  3. Group Sharing

Comment and Poll Inserts
Anywhere you are able to comment or answer polls, we include a feature called, “Inserts”. These Inserts can help you promote your event with your friends, and the IPartee community in your area. Here’s what it looks like for comments:

Comment Inserts

Once you click the Event link in the upper right hand corner, a lightbox will open and allow you to select an event to insert into your comment:

Once you’ve inserted your event and finalized your comment, your comment will look like this:

Completed Event Insert

Besides inserting events into comments, you can also insert them into poll answers. It’s a great way to reach beyond your friends. For example, if you visit the Polls page for your city, you may find people asking questions like, “What’s going on this weekend?” or “Are there any hip-hop events tomorrow?” If you can find a Poll that is related to your event, you can answer it with an insert for your event.

Inviting Friends Without Accounts
IPartee allows you to invite your friends to events even if they don’t have an account. All you have to do is add them to your contact list and they’ll show up when it’s time to send invites. If you forget, we always have a link to import more on the invites page:

Your friends will receive their invitation via the e-mail you provide, and they’ll even be able to RSVP to private events. If you use this feature often, it’s probably best you keep your contact list up-to-date. You can reach your contacts page from your profile using a link on the left hand side. You can also organize your contacts into categories so you can invite them to an event more easily and quickly.

Group Sharing
Groups make event discovery easy — people join groups that match their interests, and use them to follow events, venues and polls related to those interests. If you’re managing a group, you can Share Events, which will post the event on the group page as well as invite all the members to attend (if the event is private). This is what it looks like:

IPartee Launches Social-Network for Event and Venue Discovery

IPartee is an event management service built on a social-network designed to help find events and venues you and your friends want to attend. Unlike its competitors, IPartee offers features to plan, publish, promote and monetize events all in one place, for free.

Summary

  • IPartee is offering an event and venue centric social network that can be used with or without an account to discover events and venues in your area; it is open to any city in the world.
  • Users can create public and private events to invite their friends to whether they have accounts or not.
  • IPartee brings event and venue listings directly to the consumer through his/her network of friends and beyond, by matching their location, interests and preferences, as well as introducing discussion to narrow down choices.
  • Event profiles on IPartee cover the entire lifecycle of an event: from start to finish with polls, comments, reviews and photos.
  • People still rely on hearsay and traditional advertising to discover the events they attend, and IPartee’s competitors have failed to offer a complete solution.
  • Competitors do not successfully interconnect event planning, publishing, promotion and monetization, so event promoters and venue owners will never rely on their services.
